On 27 January 2015, Councillor Clare Apel and her husband, Ralph, along with two colleagues, Martyn Bell, an ex-chair of Chichester District Council, and Trevor James, organised an event to commemorate the Holocaust. They have since organised events every 27 January and also educate school children on racism, human rights abuses, genocides and the Holocaust through their charity, Chichester Marks Holocaust Memorial Day.
