In 2020 Andrew Berriman wrote a local history of Lavant village. It proved to be a popular and became a minor bestseller, as it was readable, interesting, even quite amusing.
So Andrew decided, during the 2021 Lockdown, to write a similar book about fifty such villages, some of them little more than hamlets. All of them are within the South Downs National Park, and within twenty miles of Chichester.
In this book Andrew writes about each village, and what makes it special to him. He knows all of them well, having either played cricket there, or walked there with his fellow HeartSmart ramblers.
Many maps, old prints and modern photographs add greatly to the book. Andrew hopes this will encourage his readers to visit these villages, as the South Downs are so special.
