The Life and Afterlife of Fanny Cornforth

Thursday 22 October 2026, 6:30pm at The Novium Museum

To art lovers all over the world, Fanny Cornforth is the epitome of pre-Raphaelite beauty. Model and companion to the artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti for 25 years, Fanny was known for being greedy, uneducated and criminal, but how much of that was true and how much reflects the prejudice of Rossetti’s friends and biographers? This talk, by Kirsty Stonell Walker, author of Stunner (2022), a biography of the Fanny Cornforth, will explore whether the woman known as Fanny Cornforth was actually a pioneer, a steadfast friend and the most wronged woman in art history, from the moment she stepped into Rossetti’s life to the present day.

The museum will be open from 6pm for those wanting to visit the ChichestHER exhibition beforehand.
